... Seeing Angels Almost 9 months exactly after my Mom died my youngest child was born. I felt truly blessed by God having this new baby come after such a difficult year. I did feel regret, though, that my new son would never get to know my wonderful Mom. As my baby got older, ... smile, and waved. ... Guardian Angels I believe in guardian angels. Since I was a boy I have felt watched over, loved, and protected by my unseen friends and I am so thankful to God for them. I have had far too many near misses with hurt and harm over the years for it to be mere luck. I guess my guardian angels are keeping me around for a reason and I will do my best not to make their work too hard in the future. I ... Through all of his years in school he has struggled with Autism. It has made it difficult for him to learn, to relate to others, and to function in this world. Thankfully, though, he has had a guardian angel with him every step of the way. ... Laughing Angels My youngest son doesn ’ t talk much. He has severe Autism that hampers his ability to speak and communicate. It also locks him in his own world much of the time. Yet, when he laughs and smiles he can light up the darkest day. Sometimes he will break into a spontaneous spasm of giggles for no apparent reason at all. When this happens my daughter and I will often joke that his dearly departed Grandma and her angel friends must ... tickling him. The other night while I was busy working at my desk I once more heard his musical laughter behind me. I asked," Son are the angels tickling you again ?" and got an even louder burst of giggles as an answer. I smiled and turned around to see him. ... mind. It was late-December from several years earlier. I was shopping alone trying to pick up some thick Winter socks to warm my frozen feet. As I rounded the corner in the store I saw a Christmas tree full of paper angels. On each angel was the name of a needy child whose family couldn ’ t afford to buy them a gift that year. Shoppers who picked an angel could buy a simple toy or gift and the store would wrap it and send ... to the child that Christmas. Around the tree I saw a teenage boy and girl picking out several angels apiece. Their mother was smiling while she watched them. I walked up next to her and started talking with her. She told me that her children started this several years ago when she first explained to them what the Charity Angel tree was for. Each offered to give up one of their toys that year so that a needy child could have one. It didn ...

... Thank You, Lord A newly arrived soul in Heaven was met by St. Peter. The saint toured the soul around Heaven. Both of them walked side by side inside a large workroom filled with angels. The soul looked at the section, and it was terribly busy with so many ... angels working in that room, since so many blessing were being packed and delivered to Earth. ... Wishing you every joy... George Macdonald wrote that" If instead of a gem or even a flower, we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as the angels give" I can remember one of the first loving thoughts that was cast into my own heart and the angel who placed it there. I was a young boy and my parents, brothers, and I were spending the afternoon at the ... of a family friend. This friend was the hymn leader at our church as well as the music teacher at my grade school. I remember I used to sit and listen to her play songs on her guitar for hours at a time. ... Angels Most people I know believe in angels. Even some of the ones who are a bit uncertain in their belief in God still believe in angels. Why is this? Maybe it is because it feels right to believe in a force of goodness higher than ourselves. God has far too often been mistakenly shown as a punisher of us. Angels, however, are almost always shown delivering God's messages of love and joy, helping us in our times of need, and aiding us in our desire to do good. We so often fall short of that desire that it is comforting to know that there are forces stronger than us willing to help us in our efforts. I myself believe deeply in angels. I believe that God is a god of love and that God wishes for us to be full of love, joy, peace, and happiness. I believe that God sends his angels to help us constantly whenever we need them whether ...

... it? How many of us have wished that we could have those three wishes that would change our lives? How many of us have wished that we could finally get all that money and all that stuff so that we could finally be happy? I hate to say it, but I was one of those genie wishers for a long time myself. I finally realized, however, that I didn ’ t need a genie in a lamp because I already had an angel in my mind. That angel had always been there trying to get my attention and show me the truth about life and love, but for a long time I was too busy wishing for a genie to hear him. I was waiting to get all of that stuff so that I could finally be happy. One glorious day, though, I finally heard what my angel had been whispering all those years." More stuff isn ’ t going to make you happy. ...

... Your Inner Angel I saw another angel recently. Sometimes it is hard to spot them because they are so good at disguises. There was no white robe on this one. She was wearing a faded, flowered, sun dress not suited for the Winter weather. Her coat too was well worn and probably older than my grown up son. She didn ’ t have a halo. Her white hair, though, sparkled when the light hit it and her smile shined with joy. There were no wings to be seen either. She was walking slowly in her scuffed up shoes while she pushed her shopping cart through the supermarket. I knew that she was an angel, however, when at the checkout she divided her groceries into 3 small piles. She apologized to me for doing so but explained that she was buying food for two other elderly people who couldn ’ t make it out in the bad weather. I just laughed and told ...

... Corporate Angel Network Pilot Priscilla Blum was taxiing her single-engine plane at the Westchester County, New York, airport when she noticed corporate jets taking off or landing nearly empty. An idea came to her. Blum, who had had breast cancer years earlier, knew how expensive and grueling transportation was for cancer patients who had to travel for specialized treatment." I thought, wouldn't it be great if we could fill some of those empty seats ?" she recalls. That was eighteen years ago. Today, Corporate Angel Network transports cancer patients-at no charge-all over the United States. The group has access to some 1500 jets from over 500 companies. If a participating jet's itinerary matches that of the patient, flight arrangements are made. Casey Chapley was ten months old when she was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer. ... Creating Fathers When the good Lord was creating fathers, He started with a tall frame. A female angel nearby said," What kind of father is that? If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping. And God smiled and said," Yes, but if I make him childsize, who would children have to look up to ?" And when God made a father's hands, they were large and sinewy. The angel shook her head sadly and said," Large hands are clumsy. They can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, rubber bands on ponytails or even remove splinters caused by sticks used as baseball bats" And God smiled and said," I know, but they're large enough to hold everything a small boy ...

... Listening To Our Better Angels I was driving my daughter home from college for the weekend on a Fall Friday afternoon. The air was warm, the sun was shining, the sky was clear, and God ’ s paintbrush had just begun to color the mountains of my home. Spectacular reds, yellows, and oranges glowed from the trees and kept a smile glowing on my own face as we drove up the narrow mountain road. As I rounded a curve I saw an old gentleman who I knew didn ’ t own a car walking the way we were going. I was happy then to give him a lift since it was on our way home. Two days later I was driving up the same road on a Sunday afternoon after taking my daughter back to college. A cold rain was falling from an overcast sky and the fallen leaves on the road were slick and caused me to drive extra slow. As I neared the top of ...

... Keeping Up With The Angels There is a question that has been troubling me for a long time now: just exactly who are the Jones and why am I supposed to be keeping up with them? Every time I turn around I seem to be bombarded with a single message: Buy! Magazines, radio, billboards and television keep telling me that I need a bigger home, a newer car, more electronics, and fancier clothes. If I get them my life will be complete and if I don ’ t then I will fall behind the Jones and face utter misery. It is so ridiculous that I just have to laugh. Now I don ’ t know who these mythical Jones are. I am not sure how expensive their house is or how shiny their just bought car looks. I am uncertain about how many new electronic goodies they have purchased or what they do. I have no idea either about what designer labels are on ...

... Finer Than Wealth I love the story about an angel who suddenly appears at a faculty meeting and tells the dean of the college that, in return for his unselfish and exemplary behavior, he will be given his choice of infinite wealth, wisdom or beauty. Without hesitating, the dean selects infinite wisdom." Done !" says the angel, and disappears in a cloud of smoke and a bolt of lightning. Now, all heads turn toward the dean, who sits surrounded by a faint halo of light. At length, one of his colleagues whispers," Say something wise" The dean looks at them and says," I should have taken the money" Though wealth is highly regarded in our world, I rather suspect this fictitious academic made the better choice. Wisdom, like many other virtues, is usually more difficult to obtain and can be far more satisfying. I've heard it said that when our hearts are empty, we ...

... Angels Of The Highway Honor Veteran Several years ago my father was killed in a tractor accident in Arkansas. He didn't have much experience on a tractor. He was a military man. He'd seen combat duty in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. For twenty-seven years he'd worn the uniform of his country and it was decorated with a silver star, a bronze star, and a purple heart. He was to be buried with full military honors at the national cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Things like that don't seem to matter to most folks these days. The lot had fallen to my older brother to drive to Pine Bluff, Arkansas to pick up the cremated remains of my father and return them to the family home for a memorial service. My brother drove home on Interstate 30 with a plastic box containing my father's remains and an American flag riding on the passenger seat of his pickup. As he drove along, somewhere ...

... from that merry Irishman has stayed with me. I knew from that time on that God not only loves us, but also wants us to be happy in our lives here. We may face challenges, tragedies, suffering, loss, and eventually our own deaths. But with God ’ s love within us we can still choose joy, give joy, live in joy, and make this world a more loving and joyous place for everyone. I never saw that angel from Ireland again. I am sure, though, that wherever he is right now, he is spreading joy and he is sharing love. That red-headed Child of God gave me a glorious example of how to live in the Kingdom of Heaven even while we are still here on Earth. Because of him I laugh more. Because of him I love more. Because of him I smile more. He was right too. Smiling does feel so darned good. May all ...

... her mother saw the pants crumpled on the floor of her daughter's bedroom-still torn. She looked around for her daughter. Spying the basement light on, she called down the stairs," Are you down there running around with your pants off ?" A big voice boomed up," No ma'am. I'm reading the gas meter" Of course, what parent can't relate to her exasperation? On the other hand, I DO have trouble understanding the guy in Los Angeles who was arrested for negligent discharge of a weapon after shooting his toilet bowl five times with a handgun (and yes, this is true). Why did he assault the commode? He apparently exploded when he couldn't extract a hair brush his daughter flushed down. He might benefit from the advice of one of America's great presidents, Thomas Jefferson, who cautioned," When angry, count to ten before you speak; if very angry, count to 100" I think ...

This is what I would say. Wake up earlier more often and take the time to watch the sun rising over the hills. Bend down to smell the flowers in the Spring. Swim more in the Summer. Play in the Fall leaves. Make snow angels every Winter. Turn the TV off in the afternoon and go play with your dogs instead. Don ’ t rush through those Sunday family dinners. Savor every bite of food and joy in them. Tell your Mom and Grandma you love them everyday and hug them every chance you can.. Don ’ t complain about chopping wood with your Dad. ... ’ s example is a beacon that I try to follow as well. Whenever I feel too challenged in my own life I look at the challenges that she has overcome in hers. She may have lost her sight but she never lost her soul. She knows that the eyes that really see are the eyes of the heart, and she does her best everyday to follow the loving vision that they give to her. I am sure too that the eyes of the angels watching over her are always filled with tears of joy and that their faces are always full of shining smiles. I hope then that when you go through your own life you are not distracted by the murky view that this world so often gives you. I hope that you see it for the illusion it is and instead look at life with the clear vision of your heart ’ s eyes. God wants us to see this world and our lives through the eyes of love ...

... A Christian's Way To Reduce Stress An Angel says," Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice" Pray. Go to bed on time. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health. Delegate tasks to capable others. Simplify and unclutter your life. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many) Allow extra time to do things and to get to places. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together. Take one day at a time. Separate worries from concerns. ... Heaven, the Lord God ever looks at the six billion earthlings and goes," Oh no -I have to provide for all of them, every day, for the rest of their lives !" Probably not. His resources are as immeasurable as the universe, and all our needs combined scarcely begin to tap into His reserves. The dailiness of life is part of our problem, not one of His. Bible students recall how the Lord fed Israel with manna -the original angel food -six days a week for forty years during Israel's wilderness wanderings. God's people received a lasting illustration of the sufficiency of the Lord for every day. The movie" Dead Poets Society" introduced the Latin expression" carpe diem" to most of us." Seize the day" became the watchword for everyone committed to making the most of each moment. Once we realize that life is a gift from a good God, and not our right nor an entitlement, we're ...

... you ever had a moment when you finally felt the joy inside of you that you have wanted all of your life? The first time I had a moment like that I was a little boy sitting on my Mom ’ s lap while she read me a story. In that second everything felt right with the world. I remember too having moments like that each time I held my own baby children in my arms and gently rocked them to sleep. Holding those peaceful angels so close made my heart grow warmer and my love grow deeper. I had another moment like that the first time I realized that God loves me just as I am with all my weaknesses and faults. It was then too that I first decided that I wanted to grow better for the Heavenly Father who loved me so much. Over the years these moments of Oneness have grown more frequent as well. Each one has filled me with joy. Each one has connected me ...

... . It is always such a pleasure to take walks around town with my oldest son. He has more people say" Hi" to him in a day than I do in a week. This is because his goodness and friendliness touches the hearts of everyone he meets. My youngest son rarely speaks at all, yet his spirit shines in other ways. His spontaneous joy and delight in the simplest things makes me smile and his wonderful laughter sounds as beautiful as an angel ’ s song. Both of my sons do have Autism, but Autism doesn ’ t have them. My boys also remind me that sometimes the brightest souls come to Earth in disguise. They come hidden in broken bodies and handicapped minds. They come needing our help and care, yet at the same time they show the rest of us how to live. They go around spreading love, sharing joy, and shining God ’ s light. And they help us to ...

... Autumn Leaves It looks like Autumn is sneaking in a bit early this year in the forested mountains of my home. Tiny splashes of red, yellow, and orange are appearing on tree after tree here. It is so beautiful. It is almost like a thousand angels with paint brushes are flying over the forests on these early September nights spreading both color and joy. Seeing all of the beauty and color of these wonderful Autumn leaves has made me decide to do something that I haven ’ t done in a few years. It will probably be a few more months before I can do it, but I am going to jump in a pile of Autumn leaves again. I am going to dance in them and hear them crunch under my feet. I am going to lay down in them and feel them brush up against my face. I am going to smell them and let them invigorate my being. I am going to play in ...

... The Most Important Trip You May Ever Take It is accurately said that it is easy to be an angel when nobody ruffles your feathers. But it seems that feather rufflers will always be around. We're told that 19th Century German statesman Prince Otto von Bismarck once became so incensed at the criticism of a professor (he must have ruffled the prince's feathers ), that he challenged him to a duel. Protocol had it that the one challenged was to have the choice of weapons. The professor made his choice. sausages! He sent word to Bismarck, along with a pair of sausages, that one sausage was safe to eat. The other had been poisoned with trichinae, which would cause a slow and lingering death, or at least long invalidism. He informed the prince that he should choose which sausage to eat and said he would eat the other one. Bismarck reasoned that a man might die with some sort of honor on a dueling field ...

... Trials. The Ultimate Compliment Have you ever considered going through trial after trial to be a compliment? I had never thought of it this way until I taught a college class on the story of Job. The following Bible passage in particular stuck out to me." One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan," Where have you come from ?" Satan answered the LORD," From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it" Then the LORD said to Satan," Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil"-Job 1: 6-8 Tempting Job and giving him problems was probably the furthest thing from Satan's mind. She thanked the older man while he smiled again and said not to worry about it. As she exited the store I could see that her eyes were still moist, but this time the tears were for a different reason. As he paid for her milk and his own items the white haired angel in disguise smiled at me one last time. Then as he was walking out of the store he gave me a wink and said," You can ’ t take it with you, you know" What he said is true. You won ’ t need any pockets for the clothes you are buried in. In Heaven's eternal bliss the loveliest strain is this, May Jesus Christ be praised! The powers of darkness fear when this sweet sound chant they hear May Jesus Christ be praised! To God, the Word, on high, the hosts of angels cry, May Jesus Christ be praised! Let mortals, too, upraise their voice in hymns of praise; May Jesus Christ be praised! Rev. E. Caswell (1800) When I read these words it warmed my heart and the void dissipated into thin air. Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him, to be gracious to him and say,` Spare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him -then his flesh is renewed like a child's; it is restored as in the days of his youth. ... Changing Colors Autumn this year in the mountains of my home has been truly spectacular. It is like an angel artist has been assigned to paint each tree in the most glorious colors imaginable. Perhaps it is the wisdom of age that has helped my eyes to see more clearly. Still, to me the leaves have never looked as beautiful as they do this Fall. One tree in my backyard has especially caught my attention. Every year before this one its leaves had always turned to a rich, vibrant red in October. This year, though, the entire tree was bathed in the most outrageous orange. It was both delightful and amazing to watch this tree suddenly change its colors. Looking at that bright, orange beacon in my backyard made me think too of how we can go about changing our own colors. I remember when cold, dark hues colored my own heart, soul, and mind. ... Love vs. Obligation A house is a house is a house-until love comes through the door, that is. And love intuitively goes around sprinkling that special brand of angel dust that transforms a house into a very special home for very special people: your family. Money, of course, can build a charming house, but only love can furnish it with a feeling of home. Duty can pack an adequate sack lunch, but love may decide to tuck a little love note inside. Money can provide a television set, but love controls it and cares enough to say no and take the guff that comes with it. Obligation sends the children to bed on time, but love tucks the covers in around their necks and passes out kisses and hugs (even to teenagers !). Obligation can cook a meal, but love embellishes the table with a potted ivy trailing around slender candles. Duty writes many letters, but love tucks a joke ...

... Let Go Of Your Grudges As we approach the New Year it's a good time to clean out the clutter in our lives. That means disposing of useless papers and unused stuff but also throwing away old grudges. The prevalence and durability of grudges proves Maya Angelou's observation that people don't always remember what you said or did, but they do remember how you made them feel. Grudges are nothing more than toxic memories of how someone made us feel. But Confucius taught that" To be wronged is nothing unless we continue to remember it" So why do so many of us choose to consciously preserve and revisit toxic feelings that detract from our happiness? Perhaps we fool ourselves into thinking we can inflict some sort of pain on the person who wronged us. In fact, holding on to a grudge is like holding on to a hot stone. It doesn't hurt the stone or the person who gave it to us; it only hurts the one ...

... he hated all of these foods and wanted some candy. When his mother refused he began to throw a fit. His crying, kicking, and screaming were getting louder and louder until his mom firmly said," If you don ’ t behave and eat your fruits and vegetables then you won ’ t be getting any of the homemade cookies your grandma brought over when we get home" With these words the crying stopped and the child ’ s face brightened with an angelic smile. I could hear the pure delight in his voice when he said," Oh Boy! Grandma made cookies" I smiled then and realized that even as adults we are often like that toddler. God is holding our hands and leading us on a path of incredible growth in learning, goodness, love, and joy. The trouble is that often we are kicking and screaming all the way. We don ’ t want what is really good for us. We ...

... world he is seen as mentally handicapped. In the eyes of Heaven, however, he is seen as so much more. His concern, caring, laughter, love, gentleness, and good cheer light up the lives of everyone he meets. His bright and beautiful spirit touches the hearts of so many everyday. When it comes to the essential things in life he is far less handicapped than the rest of us. In the eyes of Heaven he is a shining angel on a divine mission to bring more love and more light into this world that needs it so much. While my son happily goes about making this world a better place I do my best to follow his example. I do my best to love as simply, freely, enthusiastically, and unconditionally as he does. I do my best to brighten the days of others without any thought for myself. I do my best to live as a Child of God and a being ...

... a brand new face cream that was supposed to diminish wrinkles and laugh lines. The grandmother just laughed and said," Sweetie, I am 80 years old. I have learned to love all my laugh lines. After all, I earned every one of them" Then just to prove her point she laughed again and tickled her great granddaughter. The little girl ’ s and the old woman ’ s laughter blended together with a sound as musical and beautiful as an angel ’ s song. I left the store feeling a lot better about all the laugh lines I had earned in my own life. I remembered too all the beautiful faces I had seen over the years. The most radiant ones of all always seemed to have the most laugh lines as well as the fewest frown creases. They shined with joyous smiles and sparkling, loving eyes. Their beauty was ageless and eternal. It didn ’ t matter if they were 48, or ...

... you touch. They spread God's love and life's joy everywhere. They show all who are watching how to love, how to give, and how to live. I hope that someone was watching when my son gave out his own lesson in hugging. A single hug can warm a hundred hearts. Hugs like love, joy, laughter, and smiles travel from heart to heart and from soul to soul until they circle the world. They make us more like the angels and Earth more like Heaven. They help us to give lessons in God's love and wisdom each time we simply open our arms and wrap them around another.~Joseph J. Mazzella~[ by: Joseph J. ... are waiting on you to give them what they don't have. A different perspective on life, a glimpse at something beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you through a torn world can see. Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe he was more than that. Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise, to minister to a soul too comfortable in themselves. Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum, then said," go minister to that man cleaning the car, that man needs help" Don't we all?
